About Biodiversity Connections
Biodiversity Connections is a Happy Hour to build relationships and foster collaborations between scientists, NGOs and government agencies involved in biodiversity research and policy in Singapore and South East Asia.

A secondary aim is to encourage science communication to the public by occasionally inviting art, media and IT professionals interested in conservation issues.

About Our Speakers

Alistair Douglas
Alistair holds a BA in Japanese, a BSc (Marine Biology) from James Cook University, an honours degree in Biology and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Flinders University of South Australia.

At both an undergraduate and post-graduate level Alistair studied and researched his topics at the Hokkaido University of Education and the Tokyo University of Fisheries respectively.

His PhD research was entitled “Investigations into the Qualities of Farmed Fresh Southern Bluefin Tuna from Port Lincoln South Australia to Tokyo, Japan” and involved the collaboration of various research and commercial entities in both Australia and Japan.

He has over 14 years of experience within the seafood industry as a researcher, consultant and company owner through Seafood Services Japan and Transaqua UK. Recently, he established a seafood storage, processing, distribution and sales operation in Singapore.

Alistair heads up SmartAqua’s Asian operations – SmartAqua Pte Ltd.

Shannon Lim
A 28 year-old former financial planner and father of a 2 year old daughter, Shannon is out to solve the world’s problems and by making seafood so cheap, only the rich will go fishing. He runs OnHand Agrarian, a seafood farm that’s more like a privately managed reef, mangrove forest and seagrass meadow than an agricultural operation. They’re saving the world, with seafood barbecues.

  • About Green Drinks Singapore

Founded in November 2007, Green Drinks Singapore is one of more than 800 cities with a Green Drinks presence.

  • We are a non-profit environmental movement that connects academia, green businesses, activists, community and government, for knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities. We do this by organising informal talks every last Thursday of the month, over drinks! Once in a while, we hold discussions, documentary screenings and workshops to further engage the public and participants.
  • Started in 1989 in London, the Green Drinks movement is a self-organising network that is meant to be simple and unstructured. The global site can be found at www.greendrinks.org.
