Social enterprise The Living! Project opened the inaugural Luminance! 2012 light art festival yesterday. Held on all 5 levels of *SCAPE on Orchard Road, the festival targets youths and young adults, showcasing 27 art works and performances by youth artists and accomplished artists such as Sun Yu-Li, Tan Sock Fong, and Angela Chong.
Themed “Dreams and Aspirations”, the festival runs from 23 June to 1 July and was designed by Festival Directors, Allan Lim and Kenny Eng to be a sustainable and organic programme to develop artists into young leaders and in turn develops more artists into young leaders and mentors.
Using a variety of materials, such as Lego, discarded cardboard and plastic milk bottles, artists have created unique light art installations. One in particular, Thrive, was created together with the Christian Outreach to the Handicapped, a charity supporting the intellectually disabled.
Luminance! 2012 is a nice lead in to the SHINE Youth Festival 2012 in July and celebrates the youth.
