The Straits Times: New training programme to promote green building features

This coming September, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and the Institute of Engineers Singapore will launch a training programme for architects and engineers in green building features. See The Straits Times article below.

New training programme to promote green building features

A NEW programme to train architects and engineers in green building features will be launched in September.

The programme, by national water agency PUB and the Institute of Engineers Singapore, will cover how to design, construct and maintain green features such as water-cleaning ponds.

It costs up to $330 and will comprise several modules.

People who complete the course will be registered with the PUB under its Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters programme.

The PUB said property developers who want to include green features in their buildings may have to submit their plans for approval by such registered professionals in the future.

Currently, developers can get an ABC Waters certification from the PUB – which helps them market their properties as environmentally-friendly – but it is not necessary.

  • About Green Drinks Singapore

Founded in November 2007, Green Drinks Singapore is one of more than 800 cities with a Green Drinks presence.

  • We are a non-profit environmental movement that connects academia, green businesses, activists, community and government, for knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities. We do this by organising informal talks every last Thursday of the month, over drinks! Once in a while, we hold discussions, documentary screenings and workshops to further engage the public and participants.
  • Started in 1989 in London, the Green Drinks movement is a self-organising network that is meant to be simple and unstructured. The global site can be found at www.greendrinks.org.
