NEA Eco Music Challenge 2011 is here!

The NEA Eco Music Challenge is back, and if you are thinking of submitting your song, you have till 20 June to do so!

1. What is the NEA Eco Music Challenge about?
The NEA Eco Music Challenge 2011 provides a platform for talented and passionate individuals to express their appreciation and support for our beautiful environment through music. Moreover, it serves to spread the environment message and encourage everyone to take action and care for our environment. We invite all aspiring songwriters to support the environmental cause and write a song for a Clean and Green Singapore!

2. Who is eligible to take part?
Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 18 and above are eligible.
Participants 18 and under can still take part in the contest by submitting a parental consent form
available here

3. Can I record a song in other languages?
Yes, entries in Chinese, Malay or Tamil are accepted.

4. Are group entries allowed?
Yes, you may take part as an individual or a group.
You can even take part as a school group, together with your music teacher, as long as your teacher is not an employee of NEA, our sponsors or supporting partners.

5. How do I submit a song?
You can submit your audio or video entries online via Alternatively, you may email us your entries at or snail mail your recording to the following address:

6. What are the submission criteria?
Submissions should meet the following requirements:

  • Recorded in audio or video format;
  • Recorded in English, Mandarin, Malay or Tamil;
  • Recorded composition should consist of a verse and chorus with a duration of at least 1 minute;
  • The entry should be an original composition which is unpublished and not performed.

Before you submit your entry, please ensure you have read, understood, and agree to abide by all the Terms & Conditions and Contest Rules.

7. Can I submit more than 1 song?
Yes, but only 1 song will be selected for the finals.
In the event that NEA receives two similar entries by two different participants, only the participant who submitted the entry first will be eligible for the contest.

8. How is the selection process like?
NEA will shortlist 10 participants including 1 participant with the most votes for the final judging at the finale concert. The 10 finalists will be announced on 11 July 2011. The shortlisted 10 finalists will be notified by email or phone.

All 10 finalists are required to complete a 3-week mentorship by Mr Clement Chow, Ms Sara Wee, Mr Mang Irama Dusqie, Mr Peng Chi Sheng and Mr Aaron Lim in order to qualify for the grand finale.

All 10 finalists will perform their songs at the finale concert on 27 August 2011 where the top 3 winners will be crowned.

9. What is the judging criteria? 
The short-listing of qualifying entries will be based on the criteria below:

  • Judges
  • Public

The finalists competing for the top prizes at the finale concert will be judged based on the criteria below:

  • Composition
  • Delivery
  • Costume and Choreography

10. How else can I participate in the contest if I am not submitting songs?
The contest is open for public voting. Public voting begins on 18 April 2011 at 12:00am SGT and ends on 20 June 2011 at 12:00pm SGT.

You may vote once for the same entry and up to an unlimited number of entries.
