Saturday 26 March: Earth Hour, within the hour

Plenty can be done within an hour in the dark!

For starters (pun intended), our favourite veggie burger joint VeganBurg celebrates Earth Hour with ‘Lights Out, Shine On!’ from 6pm – 10pm. They will be offering vegan snacks on the house to those who bring their own eco-friendly light source. Get creative: make a lantern from used materials or capture some fireflies in a jar.

Ladies can head down to 313@Somerset from 5pm – 8pm for the Earth Hour Green & Gorgeous Party. Recycle your clothes, shoes and accessories by swapping them with other fashionistas before the lights go out for Earth Hour 2011. The ‘Eco Fabulous’ Beauty Talk will elaborate how what is good for the planet can also be good for your skin.

The Pigeonhole, a book cafe and dynamic art space located at 52 Duxton Road, will be holding an Earth Hour Fundraiser for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the Nature Society of Singapore (NSS) from 4.30pm – 11.30pm.  Enjoy an evening of organic Swiss beer with music performances by local talent Inch Chua and Bani Haykal (B-Quartet) or sign up for the Nature Photography Walk by the NSS.

Lastly, WWF Singapore will be conducting the first Earth Hour Night Walk at The Promontory @ Marina Bay. For more information on this event, please check out previous Green Drinks Earth Hour post.

Celebrate Earth Hour 2011 with all these great activities but don’t forget to go beyond the hour; make Earth Hour an everyday affair!

  • About Green Drinks Singapore

Founded in November 2007, Green Drinks Singapore is one of more than 800 cities with a Green Drinks presence.

  • We are a non-profit environmental movement that connects academia, green businesses, activists, community and government, for knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities. We do this by organising informal talks every last Thursday of the month, over drinks! Once in a while, we hold discussions, documentary screenings and workshops to further engage the public and participants.
  • Started in 1989 in London, the Green Drinks movement is a self-organising network that is meant to be simple and unstructured. The global site can be found at www.greendrinks.org.
