Delhi bans the use of plastic bags

Set that plastic bag free!

It has recently reported in the press that Delhi is banning plastic bags. Businesses have been given up to 12 days to comply to the changes.

Try carrying one in this city and you could be either fined RP100,000, or be thrown in the lock-up for five years.

This new law is a result of the mounting number of plastic bags that litter the streets of Delhi. Environmentalists have said that more than 10 million bags are used in the city everyday, and greatly welcome this move.

Other countries that have a plastic bag ban enforced include Rwanda, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
